New Hampshire Geospatial Extension Program
My interests are in the use of geospatial technology tools (GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing) in the study of natural resources and community planning. The central goals of the NH Geospatial Outreach Program are to increase public awareness of geospatial technologies, to develop geospatial tools that enhance natural resource protection and/or aid in community development decisions, and to facilitate the incorporation of these tools into the decision making apparatus of NH communities.
The New Hampshire Geospatial Extension Program focuses on these target areas...
- Hands-On Training
- We develop and teach a wide variety of GPS, GIS and remote sensing workshops, targeting skill levels ranging from novice to advanced. Our workshops range in duration from 2 hours to as long as 10 days.
- Youth Development
- Through collaboration with 4H and K-12 teachers, we promote the incorporation of geospatial technologies into academic and after school activities. These collaborations provide for opportunities for youth community engagement and technology skill development.
- Community Planning
- Through collaborations with the NH state GIS data clearing house (NH GRANIT), local, regional and state planning agencies, we are developing tools to allow communities to understand the present and future impacts of land use and natural resource management decisions.
- Remote Sensing of Lake Water Quality
- We are developing regional methods to use remote sensing to monitor important lake water quality measurements in New England, including water transparency, chlorophyll concentration, cyanobacteria populations. Our remote sensing platforms include hand-held sensors, aircraft and satellites.
