Meeting Announcement

Welcome to the information page for the 2010 Imported Fire Ant and Invasive Ant Conference. If you would like a printable version of this information, click here.

The 2010 conference will be held April 19-22, 2010 at the Little Rock Doubletree, located along the Arkansas River in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Fire Ant Conference is an important meeting for exchange of the latest research and educational activities. Historically, participants have included researchers, students, extension specialists, and industry R&D and sales staff.

The 2010 Imported Fire Ant Conference Organizing Committee extends our sincere invitation to you to participate in the Conference.

Important Deadlines

  • Hotel room reservation: March 20, 2010
  • Meeting registration: March 20, 2010
  • Presentation form submission: February 25, 2010
  • PowerPoint and manuscript submission (for Proceedings): April 12, 2010

Location
The hotel chosen for this year's conference is the Little Rock Doubletree 424 West Markham Street, Little Rock.

Rates

  • Single - $104.00/night
  • Double - $104.00/night
  • Triple - $114.00/night
  • Quad - $124.00/night

The hotel provides free in-room high-speed Internet access and complimentary parking for registered guests.

Transportation
The Doubletree provides complimentary shuttle to and from the Little Rock National Airport (LIT)

Reservations
Doubletree hotel reservations can be made by calling 501-372-4371, 1-800-937-2789, or logging on to www.doubletreelr.com.
Be sure to indicate that you are with the Imported Fire Ant Conference. To get the meeting rate, room reservations must be made no later than March 20, 2010. The Doubletree accepts all major credit cards.

Conference Registration

Participants are asked to register by March 20, 2010 to assist in meeting preparation. Individual registration is $200.00 ($220.00 after March 20). Student registration is $120.00. See conference registration form for additional media.

Presentations

The deadline for receipt of Presentation Submission Forms is February 25, 2010. The meeting will use PowerPoint presentations exclusively. Time allotted for oral presentations will be either 10 or 15 minutes. Posters must fit within a 46 by 46 inch area. Authors are responsible for providing a means of attaching the poster to the board (push pins). Space is limited and will be assigned by order of receipt. Oral Presentations (PowerPoint Format) and Manuscripts (Word Format) of each presentation (Oral or Poster) are due by April 12, 2010 so that the Conference Proceedings can be compiled. Agenda

Below is a tentative agenda for the 2010 IFA Conference. Additional details will be provided after paper and poster submissions are received.

  • Monday, April 19 - Travel, registration, exhibits, poster set-up, evening reception
  • Tuesday, April 20 - Registration, welcome, keynote, presentations, exhibits
  • Wednesday, April 21 - Presentations, exhibits, business meeting and conclusion
  • Thursday, April 22 - eXtension Work Day

Local Attractions

The meeting site will provide participants with a pleasant venue for dining and entertainment. The Doubletree is located in historic Downtown Little Rock, near the Arkansas River. Local attractions include the River Market, the Old State House, Heifer International’s Village, Little Rock History Museum and the Clinton Presidential Library, to name a few. In addition, the “World of the Pharaohs: Treasures of Egypt Revealed” will be on exhibit at the Arkansas Arts Center.

Proceedings

The Imported Fire Ant Conference Proceedings have been issued annually since 1984. The link below contains scanned copies of Proceedings from 1995 through 2007. Acquiring reprint copies of earlier Proceedings articles may be difficult, but contacting the author(s) should be the first option.

The citations from the Proceedings from 1984-2001 are provided in a bibliography developed under the direction of Dr. S. Bradleigh Vinson. An index to the numbered citations is also provided to allow users to search for papers on specific topics.
