LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The annual Breakthrough Solutions Conference on May 1 will feature speakers from Arkansas and beyond sharing insights and stories for successfully competing in the 21st century global economy.

The fourth annual conference will be held at the Hilton Little Rock Metro Center, I-630 and University Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"It’s All Connected" is the theme, with a focus on the interconnectedness of workforce preparation, jobs, wealth and quality of life and place – with broadband connectivity the common denominator in today’s successful communities. Being connected enables communities and businesses to strengthen their local economies, work force, and quality of life, says Maureen Rose, extension spokesman for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.

Keynote speaker Jane Smith Patterson will share the approach taken by North Carolina to bring broadband availability to rural areas. North Carolina is considered a leader among states working on similar initiatives.

Representatives from Cromwell Architect Engineers, Russellville Chamber of Commerce and an entrepreneur from the community of Hardy will discuss strategies for small communities to grow businesses and opportunities.

Dr. Mark Peterson, an extension specialist said the topic of preparing for 21st century jobs become more important as Baby Boomers retire, creating a significant shortage of skilled workers in many communities.

To view an agenda and to register, go to http://www.vworks,org/conference, or call Maureen Rose at (501) 671-2066. Early bird registration is $50 until April 23. After that, the registration will be $60. The conference will be sponsored by the U of A Division of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service.

This meeting is open to all interested persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information should notify the county extension office as soon as possible prior to the activity.
