Bolt

Last Updated: July 15, 2008 Related resource areas: Horses

Horses that bolt their food have a tendency not to chew it before swallowing. Horses that eat fast and aggressively should be encouraged to eat more slowly by feeding them small meals or putting large rocks in their feed trough so they have to take smaller bites and eat around the rocks.

For more information, see Slowing Down the Fast Eating Horse.
