LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture has created a new exercise video for adults, which demonstrates how to get fit by exercising only 10 minutes at a time for a total of 150 minutes a week.
"Fit In 10" is a research-based exercise program that includes a DVD and a series of six complementary extension fact sheets titled, "Increasing Physical Activity as We Age," says LaVona Traywick, assistant professor of gerontology/extension for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.
"With this program, you can get your exercise in one of two ways: 10-minute segments throughout the day, or all at once. The exercises may be performed for 40 minutes, or you may pick and choose segments to create your own exercise experience," Traywick says.
The video has four 10-minute segments: balance, endurance, strength training and stretching. There is also a 10-minute bonus feature on tai chi that is endorsed by the Arkansas chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
Companion fact sheets also deal with balance, endurance, strength training and stretching, and discuss healthy eating and exercise recommendations.
To order the video, which is $10, and view, or download the fact sheets, go to http://www.uaex.edu and select Health and Nutrition, then Fit in 10.
