PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Recent rains and cooler temperatures have allowed red imported fire ants to appear in lawns, around businesses, and in public places such as parks and fairgrounds, as well as in hay meadows, pastures and row crop fields.

"Now is the time to suppress fire ants around critical areas such as homes and public places where young and old may congregate," said Don Plunkett, Jefferson County extension agent for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.

Plunkett recommended that home owners find the Cooperative Extension Service publication Fire Ant Control in Two Easy Steps online at the following web link: http://www.uaex.edu/Other_Areas/publications/PDF/FSA-7036.pdf.
