Sprayers in Precision Agriculture
- A sprayer [1]is a piece of equipment that sprays herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers on crops.
- Sprayers range in size from man-size units (typically backpacks with spray guns) to self-propelled units such as row gators[2] and high boys[3].
- Along with the GPS[4] technology of many other farm machines, the row gator contains variable rate technology[5].
- This means the farmer can input a map of the field into the system. This map shows parts of the field that the farmer will want to avoid, such as ponds and sprinkler heads.
- This also helps the farmer not to spray the same areas twice.
- This helps the farmer to be environmentally friendly by not spraying chemicals into streams.
