There are many excellent manuscripts and articles that address the story of cotton throughout history. There is little doubt that cotton played a major role in the economic development of the southern tier of the United States. While there are bright and dim moments in cotton’s past, this crop still plays a major role in the agricultural lifeblood in many states. The following links provide a partial picture of the general history of cotton as it was developed and utilized throughout history. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list but should provide interested parties with a good beginning to their quest for information. If you have other websites of interest on cotton’s history that you wish to have included, please send an e-mail listing the site to Dale Monks, Auburn University. The site will be reviewed for relevance and content prior to a final decision on posting.
