Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUC)

Last Updated: February 06, 2008 Related resource areas: Geospatial Technology

Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUC) are part of a USGS watershed classification system based on size. In the system, the United States is divided into major watersheds such as the Colorado River, and then further subdivided into their subwatersheds. There are four levels of classification; each watershed is represented by a unique eight-digit code commonly known as a HUC.
