Short course in conjunction with the World Dairy Expo explains how to produce energy from dairy manure using anaerobic digestion.

Released August 18, 2009

AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University’s Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering is coordinating a short course in conjunction with the World Dairy Expo in September on how to produce energy from dairy manure using anaerobic digestion.

The number of manure anaerobic digesters in the United States has been increasing, with the majority found on dairy farms.

The short course is designed to provide the latest information and resources that producers, consultants, decision makers, system reviewers and information providers can use to understand and address issues related to anaerobic digestion of dairy manure. It will cover dairy manure energy production from fundamental principles to case histories involving full-scale anaerobic treatment technologies in agricultural settings.

The training will be held on Sept. 28 and 29 at the Madison Concourse Hotel in Madison, Wis. The World Dairy Expo runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3 in Madison. The cost of the session is $595 for Expo attendees and $795 for exhibitors. The early registration deadline is Sept. 14 and the hotel registration deadline is Aug. 30.
