This is the Auburn University Biosystems Engineering Department’s tractor used for research by various professors and graduate students. Not only is it equipped with the same technology as the tractor on the left, but it also features section control technology. This means that if a sprayer implement is being used on the tractor the farmer can control each nozzle separately from the cab.

  • Most commonly, the term tractor[1] is used to describe the distinctive farm vehicle.
  • A more precise definition of a tractor[2] is a vehicle specifically designed to provide a high tractive effort at slow speeds.
  • Purposes of tractors include:
    • Hauling a trailer or machinery used in agriculture or construction.
  • Tractors come in many sizes from lawn and garden size to an 8 wheel or track operated 530 hp model and bigger.
  • These tractors are equipped with John Deere’s Starfire technology[3]
    • This technology is similar to the cotton pickers and combines, which is a GPS device.
    • Like the cotton pickers and combines, the tractor is guided through the field based on a programmed trajectory by the farmer.
    • The tractor can also travel in circular paths or curved paths.
