Short Biography: Karen Waite is a product of the Michigan 4-H Program. Her primary project focus was horses, along with Teen Leadership and various other projects. In her 4-H days, she primarily participated in Showmanship, Pleasure and Equitation classes, as well as Horse Judging. She attended MSU on a 4-H Foundation scholarship and graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Education and Animal Science and a Master’s Degree in Animal Science with a nutrition emphasis. Karen is also a NARHA certified therapeutic riding instructor and oversees the Michigan 4-H PEP Program, for riders with disabilities. Karen is presently working on a Doctoral degree in the area of Sports Psychology with an emphasis on equestrian sport and activity. Currently, she is the Equine Extension Youth Specialist in Michigan and teaches and advises students in the MSU Department of Animal Science. Karen also is a carded judge with the ABRA. In her spare time, Waite participates in All-Around events with her horse “Chip” and spends time with her husband Tim and her dogs “Gracie” and “Buddha”.
