LINCOLN, Neb. -- Feedlot managers, owners, employees and allied industry will learn the latest on byproduct and feedlot issues at the 2008 Nebraska Beef Feedlot Roundtable at three locations across the state.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension meeting will be offered Feb. 12 at the Bridgeport Prairie Winds Community Center, Feb. 13 at the Lexington Holiday Inn Express and Feb. 14 at the Norfolk Lifelong Learning Center.

Registration is from 8-8:30 a.m. with introduction and welcome at 8:30. The morning session, sponsored by the Nebraska Corn Board, will focus on byproducts and feedlot cattle. Presentations include: Ethanol Supply, Corn Supply, Kelly Brunkhorst, Nebraska Corn Board; Corn, Ethanol, Livestock Economics, Darrell Mark, UNL ag economist; Feeding Applications, Terry Klopfenstein, UNL animal scientist and Galen Erickson, UNL beef feedlot nutrition specialist; Storage of Byproducts, Brent Plugge, UNL Extension educator; and Feeding Other Byproducts, Ivan Rush, UNL beef specialist.

Lunch will be sponsored by the Nebraska Beef Council, followed by a producer panel of experiences and challenges of using byproducts.

The afternoon sessions in Lexington and Norfolk will focus on environmental influences on production with a presentation on heat stress by Tami Brown Brandl, U.S. Department of Agriculture Meat Animal Research Center, and a presentation on cold stress by Terry Mader, UNL beef specialist. It will conclude with a research update by Erickson.

The afternoon session in Bridgeport will offer information on a feedlot nutritionist survey by Judson Vasconcelos, UNL feedlot nutritionist, followed by a research update by Erickson.

All meetings are set to adjourn at 4 p.m.

Preregistration is available by fax, e-mail or mail and is requested by Feb. 7. Preregistration cost is $25 and will be accepted with preregistration or at the door.
