Organic Corn Production

Last Updated: March 28, 2008 | Related resource areas: Corn and Soybean Production

Organically-grown corn follows a set of guidelines that does not allow the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides for at least three years in the field where the crop is grown.

Composted manure is allowed. Natural pesticides (such as Bt toxin) are allowed.

For more information on organic guidelines, go to the USDA National Organic Program website: http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/indexIE.htm.
