Last Updated: July 16, 2008 | Related resource areas: Horses

External parasites, also known as ectoparasites, are parasites that live on the skin surface of an animal - in this case, the horse. The primary ectoparasites of horses are houseflies, stable flies, mosquitoes, and, to a lesser extent, horseflies and deer flies.
