Canning your own produce involves work but can save money and provide satisfaction.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Cooperative Extension centers across the state have reported a boost in calls from people wanting to can their own produce.

Candy Underwood, an agent with the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension Office, said canning involves elbow grease, but you reap dividends.

"I believe you save money and (it) makes you feel good about yourself," Underwood said.
