The following is a “script” by which a reader can experience each step along the way of creating their experience through their “lens” and “self-talk” – which reflect the mechanism of perception.

Imagine that you are at the local mall doing some shopping. As you are walking along, you notice a good friend coming towards you on the opposite side of the walkway…As they get closer, your friend turns his / her head and glances towards you – you wave – but they turn away and start talking to their companion…

1. What are your first thoughts (your “self-talk”)?
2. What does this remind you of from your past (your lens)?
3. Use the matrix on the next screen to determine your self-image...

I wonder if they didn’t see me? What did I do to upset them?
I want to find out if something I might have done could have upset them. Why does this always happen to me?
This friendship is important to me…I want to understand what’s going on. What do they want from me?
I suppose that if something important is going on they will tell me… Should I talk to the friend they were with to find out what’s going on?
