Falls are of particular concern for caregivers and care receivers. Falls are the most common cause of fatal injury among older adults. For that reason, it's imperative that hazards be removed from the home. Assistive technology may also help address falls.

The Home Safety Council has a fall prevention and education curriculum, Safe Steps Program. You may access this program at: www.homesafetycouncil.org/home/home_march05_w002.aspx. It addresses the three issues that contribute to falls: medication interaction, physical fitness, and the home environment. It also includes a 12-minute video on fall prevention.
