Double-cropping refers to planting soybeans after harvesting wheat or barley. Soybeans can be planted directly into wheat stubble. In many cases, the combine harvester is followed closely by the soybean planter.
Some producers chose to burn wheat straw. Burning wheat straw removes organic matter, and modern planters can easily plant into existing wheat straw. Burning wheat straw is not necessary. Wheat residue should be uniformly spread over the swath width or use a stripper header to remove a lesser amount of straw.
