This publication is intended to help producers master the use of a grazing stick (Figure 1) to estimate pasture yield and the allocation of pasture to meet animal needs in a rotational grazing system. Grazing sticks are useful for making immediate pasture management decisions, but good records of pasture yield, grazing days, and other data will provide a means to evaluate past efforts to improve the system. Records can also be used to identify areas of weakness in the system and help make plans for improvement.
