I have a 21-acre hay field that I harvest for horse feed. The field was originally seeded as alfalfa which is mostly gone at this point. Each year there seems to be more clover and weeds such as wild carrot and wild strawberry. Last year I had 7 acres plowed up and reseeded with a pasture mix. It seems to have been quite successful, but it also cost about $1,900 which will take a long time to recoup. I have been reading about the disadvantages of opening the soil and am wondering if it would be advisable to spray the weeds and add alfalfa and assorted grasses with a no-till method?

Our four year old mare constantly jumps out of her 20 acre pasture which she shares with three geldings. The fencing is 4 feet high in most areas but she has also jumped over the areas which are five feet. Would a martingale type of strap work to keep her from jumping over the pasture fence? How can I keep her in the pasture? The pasture itself is in good shape with lush grass.

We are living in Southern Turkey in the Antalya region which has a semi-tropical climate. We are about to start growing alfalfa for our horses and would also like to grow paddock grass. The soil is a sand/lime mix, rich in calcium. Which kind of grass seeds do you recommend for horse pasture in our region?
