We heat our Minnesota home with a corn-burning stove, which burns dried corn cobs at a very hot temperature so that all is left is a little brick of ash each day. The guy who sold us the stove said that the ash was full of nitrogen and makes great lawn fertilizer. I was wondering if that's true.

I chop my vegetable vines, leaves, peelings, etc., and leave them in the garden. I pull a little soil over them and till everything in by late fall. Is this an acceptable practice to use instead of a compost pile?

We had our soil tested at our local Minnesota Extension office. Our fertilizer recommendation was 15-0-30. I am having trouble finding fertilizer that is anywhere close to that NPK ratio. What would you suggest? Also, how late in the fall can I fertilize shrubs and lawns?

I just got soil sample results back from the Extension office for my blueberries. I have two patches, one of which came in "looking good" at 5.0 pH and the other on the low end of what is recommended at 4.2 pH. In the soil recommendations, they didn't recommend lime. I am a bit worried about the 4.2 pH; will my blueberries be OK at that low of a pH?
