I have an invasive vine that has taken over my lilac hedge. It produces multiple vines off runners that can be more than 1 inch in diameter. It produces palmate leaves that can be 5 to 6 inches across when mature. It grows very quickly. How do I get rid of it?

I currently have a hops vine that grows on an arch on the north side of my Minnesota home. I would like to replace it with a new vine because the hops are too aggressive. I would love a flowering vine, but anything attractive will do the job.

I planted a Japanese wisteria early this year, and in October its leaves started to turn yellow and then brown. Now the leaves are falling off. I was wondering if this is normal? No book I've read on the subject mentions shedding leaves during the dormant season.
